Forestry applications: 22 June 2026 to 5 July 2026

This fortnight saw a modest number of new entries on the Scottish Forestry Public Register, spread across seven local authority areas. In total, eight applications were registered, covering around 193.22 hectares of land.

Overall Volume

Between 22 June and 5 July 2026, eight new applications were logged. Seven of these are currently open for public comment, while one is under consideration. The vast majority of the registered area comes from a single large felling proposal (see below).

Breakdown by Case Type

Felling Permission Applications (FPAs) — permissions sought to fell trees: 7 applications
Forestry Grant Scheme (FGS) — applications for public funding to support forestry work: 1 application

Local Authority Activity

Dumfries and Galloway Council saw the most activity with two applications. The remaining six were spread evenly, one each across:

South Lanarkshire Council
Scottish Borders Council
East Lothian Council
Aberdeenshire Council
Highland Council
Perth and Kinross Council

Notable Applications

By far the largest is the felling proposal at Tannylaggie (National Forest Estate) near Newton Stewart in Dumfries and Galloway (case FPA-13563), covering 152.22 hectares — roughly four-fifths of the entire fortnight's registered area. Its consultation runs until 10 August 2026.

The next largest applications are considerably smaller:

Tewsgill, near Abington, South Lanarkshire (FPA-13557) — 15.33 ha
Branxholm & Drinkstone (Pilmuir Rig), near Hawick, Scottish Borders (FPA-13559) — 11.98 ha
The Hopes, near Gifford, East Lothian (FPA-13558) — 5.94 ha
Glenkindie, near Towie, Aberdeenshire (FPA-13553) — 5.28 ha

The single Forestry Grant Scheme entry is Skelpick Croft NWC near Bettyhill, Highland (26FGS93159), a 1.99-hectare scheme open for comment until 7 August 2026.

Two applications are worth a mention for different reasons. High Boreland, Tongland, near Kirkcudbright (FPA-13552), is the smallest felling proposal at just 0.48 hectares. The Keithick Estate application near Coupar Angus, Perth and Kinross (FPA-13561), is unusual in that it is listed with a recorded area of 0.00 hectares and is the only case already "under consideration" rather than open for comment, with a consultation end date of 15 July 2026.

Comment Deadlines

For those wishing to respond, consultation windows for the open applications close between 22 July and 14 August 2026. The largest proposal at Tannylaggie remains open until 10 August 2026.
